Start in South Staffs
South Staffordshire Council is pleased to announce its new programme, Start in South Staffs, designed to support budding entrepreneurs and early-stage businesses.
The programme is part of the Enterprise in South Staffs initiative, a comprehensive package of business support funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
If you are thinking of starting a business, or you have recently taken the step into self-employment, Start in South Staffs can help you to access the most recent information and support to help your business flourish and grow. The programme provides practical advice and guidance for businesses which have been trading for up to two years.
New businesses have a golden opportunity to thrive through a bespoke programme of support and online or face to face workshop’s, delivered by Good2Great, designed specifically to equip each business owners with the fundamental tools and knowledge necessary to run a successful venture.
Following completion of the scheme, eligible businesses may also be able to access grant funding of up to £1000 to support with start-up costs.

Funding Available for community projects
Grant funding of up to £99,999 is available to support a wide range of community projects in South Staffordshire through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
Funding is available for capital projects including investment in buildings, equipment, and machinery through the Rural England Fund.
There may also be support for other, non-capital activities through the UKSPF Residual fund.

Community Lottery hits over £190,000 for local good causes
South Staffordshire’s Community Lottery, which has now raised over £190,000 for the local community and supports over 80 good causes and charities, welcomes two new good causes.
Wombourne Warriors and Perton Academy PTFA have both recently joined the lottery and are now inviting you to support the great work they do. Each Saturday at 8pm the draw takes place for you to win cash prizes, including the jackpot of £25,000. You can support any registered good cause by purchasing a £1 weekly lottery ticket. Training courses running February half term!
This February half term we have a variety of training courses on offer for young people aged 14 years+.
Courses include National Pool Lifeguard Qualification courses, swimming teacher courses and aquatic helper courses. Places are limited and advanced booking is essential. Leisure centre activities for children and young people
South Staffordshire Council’s leisure centres provide a range of activities and schemes for young people, some of which are available during school holidays and others which are available all year round.
During February half term there are a variety of activities on offer including Aspire Activity Camps, Wolves Soccer Schools and swimming. |
The leisure centres also run ‘Active Youth’ sessions, all year round, which are supervised gym sessions for young people aged 13 years+.

Partnership updates
Are you a parent or carer with a child 5 to 11 years?
The government is supporting working families through its biggest ever investment in childcare, to make it more affordable, available, and flexible and would like to hear from parent and carers.
As part of this announcement, the government is reviewing wraparound care (before and after school childcare) for primary school children across Staffordshire, which includes reviewing the number of places available, to support working families in the local community. 999 Ambulance Services Survey
Have you called for an ambulance for yourself or for someone else recently? If so, Healthwatch Staffordshire would like to hear from you.
This Healthwatch Staffordshire survey collects feedback about people’s experiences of using the 999 Ambulance Services in Staffordshire.
You may respond as a patient who needed to use the service or on behalf of such a patient. The survey is completely anonymous, and the results will be used in reports to influence development of future services.
Please note that any comments you give may be quoted (anonymously) in public reports and/or shared with the County Council and/or the NHS to inform them of people’s feedback.

Wolverhampton Council invites you to ‘Serving with Pride’
On February 14th, the City of Wolverhampton Council, as part of LGBT History Month, are hosting an event called ‘Serving with Pride’.
The event time is 12.30-2.00pm and is open to everyone, so we wanted to extend the invite out to other local authorities. The aim of the event aim is to celebrate, promote and educate on the LGBT and Civil Rights movement. It is a time to reflect on the past; the journey that LGBT have been on and a look to the future. As part of LGBT History Month 2024, this event looks into the experiences of LGBT+ military veterans, what support is available to them and a reflection on what it is like to be LGBT+ and in the armed forces today. This is a hybrid session so you can either attend at the Council Chamber (City of Wolverhampton Council, Council Chamber (Fourth Floor, St. Peter’s Square, Wolverhampton, WV1 1SH) or via Microsoft Teams – the link will be shared once you click to register.
