| As we head into the final weeks of summer, many of us will be making the most of Staffordshire’s countryside, parks and open spaces, whether that’s a walk on Cannock Chase, a family day out or simply enjoying the green spaces close to home.
We’re lucky to have some fantastic countryside right here on our doorstep. It’s one of the things that makes Staffordshire such a special place to live, work and visit. As a council, we’re proud to help look after these places, but protecting them is something all of us have a part to play in.
The hot, dry weather we’ve experienced this summer has increased the risk of outdoor fires and put extra pressure on our emergency services. I’d like to thank our firefighters, police officers and partner organisations for everything they’ve done to keep people safe during a particularly challenging few months.
Protecting Staffordshire’s countryside is something we all have a role to play in. Whether you’re out walking, cycling or enjoying a day with family and friends, please take a little extra care and think about the impact simple actions can have. Taking litter home, disposing of cigarettes safely and avoiding anything that could start a fire can all help protect the landscapes, wildlife and communities we value so highly.
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer and can continue making the most of Staffordshire’s fantastic countryside and green spaces safely. |

Find your next page-turner at Staffordshire Libraries

|
|
| Looking for your next read?
If you’ve been searching for a book you can’t put down, you’re not alone. Crime and mystery novels are proving the biggest page-turners in Staffordshire’s libraries this summer. Richard Osman’s The Impossible Fortune tops the borrowing chart, followed by Lee Child’s Exit Strategy and Robert Galbraith’s The Hallmarked Man.
But there’s more to your local library than great books. Alongside free access to thousands of books and eBooks, libraries across the county host a wide range of groups, activities and events for all ages.
You could join a Knit and Natter group, swap recommendations at a book club, get creative at a card-making or arts and crafts session, explore your family history, enjoy a coffee morning, or take little ones along to Baby Bounce and Rhyme.
Whether you’re after the latest bestseller, looking to meet new people or keen to try something new, your local library has plenty to offer. |
