A Remembrance event will take place this Sunday in Bilbrook.
The running order of the day is as follows:

Codsall Christmas Fair returns on Friday, December 2nd – and an appeal has gone out seeking marshals to help with the event.
It will feature live music, street entertainers, fairground rides, Santa’s Grotto, hot food, 50 trade stalls offering a range of Christmas-themed products, and community carol singing with local school choirs accompanied by the Salvation Army Band.
The organisers are looking for up to 20 people who can spare a couple of hours to offer guidance to stallholders, redirect traffic, and keep an eye out for mishaps. The main period of time they need help is between 1 and 4pm.

A range of craft and gift stalls will be on offer at Himley Hall this Saturday.
Running from 10am till 4pm, items on sale will range from craft gin, to floral wreaths, alpaca scarfs, and chocolate.
There will also be a choir, singing from 11am till 3pm.
The event will be held indoors inside the hall and outside in the courtyard.
Tickets cost £2.50 for adults and under 16s go free.

South Staffordshire Council’s Environmental Health and Licensing Team has worked with the organisers, with a view to helping them deliver a safe and successful event.
Members approved the next stage of the review of the Local Plan for public consultation at Full Council on Tuesday, November 8th.
The Publication Plan, also known as a pre-submission plan, contains sites for housing, employment, gypsy and traveller pitches, and policies to determine planning applications.
This is the final stage of consultation before the plan is submitted to the Government and an independent planning inspector is appointed to carry out a public examination into whether it is sound and legally compliant. The consultation runs for six weeks from Friday, November 11th, until midday on Friday, December 23rd. There are five in-person events planned, where officers will be available by appointment to discuss the plan and next steps.

Steps being taken to reduce climate change in South Staffordshire and the Shropshire / Staffordshire border were discussed at an event hosted by landowner Bradford Estates in partnership with South Staffordshire Council.
Approximately 100 people representing businesses, local authorities, residents group and environmental campaigners attended the half day networking session at Woodlands Farm, Weston under Lizard, on Thursday (Nov 3) to explore ways of cutting environmental impact.
Councillor Len Bates BEM said: “It has been a pleasure to speak to such an engaged audience to promote the steps being taken by South Staffordshire Council to tackle climate change.
“We recognise our efforts fit into a wider global picture so it is important as many people as possible know about the initiatives being taken in their local area.”
The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) is redrawing constituency boundaries in order to rebalance the number of electors represented by each MP, and a final consultation on proposed new constituencies is now open.
A new, revised map of constituency proposals, which takes into account feedback sent in by the public on the initial proposals, has been published on the consultation website bcereviews.org.uk
Send in your views before the closing date of December 5th to have your say on new parliamentary constituency boundaries.
South Staffordshire District Council is conducting a review of Polling Districts and Polling Places.
The review will take place between October 2022 and January 2023.
The timing of the review is to enable any changes to be implemented before the next scheduled district and parish elections on Thursday, May 4th, 2023.

Communities are being urged to prepare for flooding this winter with the Environment Agency warning of ‘ignoring the danger at your own peril’.
Amid increased extreme weather events brought on by the climate emergency, the Environment Agency is launching an awareness campaign – Flood Action Week – to encourage those who live in areas at risk of flooding to act now to protect their home, possessions and family.
The Environment Agency is urging people to take three simple steps:

Taking place in the historic Parkland, the bonfire and fireworks event will also offer a funfair, street food vendors, local ale and more.

Firework displays will take place at 6pm and 7.30pm.

Another huge bonfire and fireworks event takes place at Himley Hall this Saturday.
Boasting a large bonfire and firework display to a soundtrack, the event will also feature a night market, street entertainers, seasonal refreshments and a funfair.
The event runs from 4.30pm to 10.30pm.
This event is completely sold out.
Around 22,000 people are set to attend.

A ‘fireworks extravaganza’ will take place at Staffordshire County Showground this Sunday, presented by Rotary Club of Stafford Castle.
The event, in aid of local charities, will feature a funfair and food will be on sale.
Tickets cost £8 for adults and £3 for children.

Gates open at 4pm, with the 25-minute-long fireworks display kicking off at 7pm.
Free parking available.
Around 3,000 people are expected to attend a bonfire and fireworks event in Stourton this evening (Friday, November 4th).
The event, taking place at Stourbridge Rugby Club on Bridgnorth Road, will also include a children’s disco. Food and drink will be on sale.

The Community Recovery Grants Scheme is now open for applications from groups who work with and support communities in the county from a new Staffordshire County Council fund.
The county council is keen to support the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Staffordshire by providing a range of one-off grants to help them recover following the pandemic and with the challenges of the rising cost of living.
Grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available.
Grants will be awarded throughout October, November and December 2022 on a first come first served basis.
All grants will be fully distributed by December 2022 and recipients will need to spend the award by March 31st, 2023.

Staffordshire Police needs your support to raise awareness about knife crime, helping the young people in your life understand the danger they can be putting themselves in if they choose to carry a knife.
The impact of knife crime can be far reaching, affecting the families of those concerned as well as the wider community.
Though knife crime levels are relatively low in Staffordshire, some young people think they need a knife to protect themselves, however by carrying a knife they’re putting themselves in greater danger as the knife they’re carrying can be used against them.

Get some fresh air and gentle exercise and meet people from the local community by coming along to one of our cemeteries for our bulb planting and wildflower seed sowing events.
You can come along for the whole three hours but any time you can spare will be much appreciated.
we’ll be planting a variety of spring flowering bulbs including snowdrops, daffodils, crocus and bluebells and this year we will be sowing some wildflower seeds in our natural burial meadow areas.
Please bring sensible footwear and warm clothing and we will provide everything else. We hope to see you there!
The Friends of Bilbrook Repair Café in partnership with South Staffs Council climate change prize will be holding a Repair Cafe event on Saturday 10th December, 10am – 1pm at Bilbrook Village Hall, Joeys Lane, Bilbrook, WV8 1JL.
Bring along your items for repair, the service is free, however donations are most welcome.

Working in collaboration with Staffordshire County Council, Street Scene have been busy over the last week or so carrying out a programme of Environmental Improvement works at various locations in the district. These works include pruning of shrubs and removal of weeds from pathways and kerb lines, removal of litter build up, clearing of green waste debris from public alley ways and general tidy up, these works are ongoing.

Increased costs this year are going to leave many people across our communities with additional cost burdens that may prove to be extremely challenging. Households may be faced with choices between eating healthily, turning the heating on or having to live in cold homes, leading to increased health and wellbeing issues.
South Staffordshire Council in Partnership with the Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust (MPFT) and The Staffordshire Community Foundation have pooled a budget to facilitate this provision. It is not intended to cover the full costs, rather supplement other budgets and funding that existing organisations are already using for this type of provision.

Rally fans will flock to Weston Park this weekend for a two-day motoring event.
The rally, featuring up to 60 specially selected cars, begins tomorrow in the QEII arena at Telford Town Park, followed by stages at the Ironbridge Power Station. The cars will then proceed to Weston Park

Barclays is set to relocate its services into the Community Hub from Tuesday, October 18th.
The team will be onsite every Tuesday between 9am and midday, and Thursdays from 9am to 5pm to offer support, guidance, and information to their customers.
No cash transactions will be provided.
As well as occupying an office, they will also have a visible presence within the foyer.
This new tenant now brings the Community Hub occupancy to 100%.

Staffordshire County Council has provided a gift card to all pensioner households who were in receipt of Council Tax Support on August 1st.
This payment has been made from the Household Support Fund, which is a grant from the government.
Eligible households will receive a letter that details how to claim the gift card.

Nature fans can get out and about and enjoy the seasonal weather at an Autumn Fruits and Funghi Walk this weekend.
The event, taking place tomorrow, will give attendees the opportunity to ‘discover a world of funghi and delicious fruits’.
Running from 10.30am to midday, the walk will take place at Kingswood Trust, Holyhead Road, WV7 3AP.
This summer’s Space Scheme proved a huge success.
It provided young peopled aged 8-17 with increased access to swimming, the gyms and 3G pitches.
Throughout the summer, the scheme subsidised 749 visits, equating to in the region of £1,500 of funding.
Penkridge, Codsall and Wombourne Leisure Centres are providing children’s activity camps for 5 to 14 year olds.
The camps run from Monday, October 24th, to Friday, October 28th.
The camps at Wombourne and Codsall centres provide children with access to a wide range of sports based sessions and are a great way for young people to engage in positive activities whilst making new friends. That’s the term used to describe gangs or organised criminal networks (also known as OCGs) who exploit young and vulnerable people into distributing and selling illegal drugs. Young people can be groomed online or face-to-face, by a stranger or someone they know. A mini exhibition takes place later this month about Second World War pillboxes.
The event, taking place at Codsall Library, is being run by the Transforming the Trent organisation.
Pillboxes in the Transforming the Trent Valley landscape were part of Stop Line Number 5, a network of defensive emplacements that used the rivers Trent, Tame and Dove to provide a natural barrier to invading forces

Richard Winterton, star of BBC television series Bargain Hunt, announced the winners of the competition at a ceremony in Stafford.
Brewood took both the Best Large Village and Community Spirit awards.
Acton Trussell took the Small Village award.

A barn dance is taking place tonight at the Kingswood Trust.

Penkridge, Codsall and Wombourne Leisure Centres are providing children’s activity camps for 5 to 14 year olds.
The camps run from Monday, October 24th, to Friday, October 28th.
The camps at Wombourne and Codsall centres provide children with access to a wide range of sports based sessions and are a great way for young people to engage in positive activities whilst making new friends. The Hub Cafe is under new management – and officially open for business.
Now run by Mrs B’s Catering, the cafe offers a wide range of hot and cold food, drinks, and snacks.
Breakfast is served daily, from 8.30am to 12pm – including Danish pastries, yogurts and oats, full English, baps, and toast. Lunch is available from 12pm to 1.45pm – offering jacket potatoes, pies, soups, and omelettes. Daily themed specials are also back, with Italian cuisine on Mondays, roast of the week on Tuesdays, pie day on Wednesdays, curry with Indian appetisers on Thursdays, and Fish Fridays. Snacks and cakes are on sale all day, from 8am to 3.30pm. |

People are being warned to look out for fake emails and texts claiming to offer discounts on energy bills, says the BBC.
A number of different scams have been circulating, including some that appear to be from the energy regulator Ofgem.
The Government has announced that a £400 energy bill discount will be available to all households.
But this will be automatic and people should not give away personal details in order to apply.

Stoke and Staffordshire Growth Hub will be providing direct advice and support to businesses.
The event, taking place at Codsall Community Hub on September 28th, is being run in partnership with the South Staffordshire Business Place Partnership.
Advisors will be on-hand to offer advice on a range of topics and provide information on the variety of support programmes available to support businesses – whatever your stage, size, or sector.
The drop-in session will run 9.30am to 1.30pm.

A three-day event starts today, raising funds for two hospice charities.
The Wheaton Aston Beer Festival, taking place at Wheaton Aston Sports and Social Club, starts today and runs until Sunday.
Profits raised at the family-friendly event will benefit Compton Care and Katherine House Hospice.
There will be numerous local artists performing live music, a variety of food choices, a children’s craft tent, bouncy castle, football, and face painting.

Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centre’s refurbishment works started this week with planned upgrades being done to the swimming pool and changing rooms, reception area and gym.

Codsall and Wombourne Leisure Centres are providing full-day and half-day children’s activity camps for 5 to 14 year olds.

Baggeridge Country Park’s walk-leader volunteers are increasing their new monthly ‘short walk’, to every week.
The walk takes place each Thursday at 10am and is free to join.

Resurfacing works are now complete on the driveway in and out of Baggeridge Country Park.
We are pleased to say that the potholes and cattle grid are now gone.

A minute’s silence has been called for 8pm on Sunday, September 18th, to provide an opportunity for the nation to unite to reflect on the lifetime of service which Her late Majesty devoted to the United Kingdom, the Realms and Territories and to the Commonwealth.
As a mark of respect for the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, and to allow our staff and members the opportunity to pay their respects, our office at Codsall Community Hub will be closed on Monday, September 19th.

There will be no waste and recycling collections on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral this Monday.
Collections due on September 19th will instead be made on Tuesday, September 20th.
For all other collections next week, please present your bins on your normal collection day by 7am, but allow up to one extra day for them to be emptied. For example, if your bin collection is normally on Tuesday, please present your bin on Tuesday as normal, but allow until the end of Wednesday for it to be emptied.

All of Staffordshire’s recycling centres and tips, including those in Wombourne, Cannock and Bilbrook, will be closed on Monday, September 19th.
Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday, September 20th.
As a mark of respect to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Baggeridge Country Park will be closed on Monday, until the funeral service has concluded.
The park will then open and close at 8pm.
The Teashop and Challenge Academy will be closed all day.
All of South Staffordshire Council’s leisure centres will be closed on Monday.

South Staffordshire Council’s Be a Councillor event, which was due to take place on Monday, has been postponed.

The Government’s National Cyber Security Centre has warned that during this period following the death of Her Majesty the Queen, including her Lying-in-State and State Funeral, there may be an increase in phishing emails and other scams.
‘Phishing’ is when criminals use scam emails, text messages or phone calls to trick their victims. The aim is often to make you visit a website, which may download a virus onto your computer, or steal bank details or other personal information.
