| Council reorganisation update
Your services are unchanged.
Yesterday, the Government has withdrawn its decision to replace existing local councils with two new councils covering the north and south of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. It will now reconsider all options for council reorganisation submitted for our area.
Reorganisation has not been cancelled, but the final arrangements remain undecided.
What this means for you:
- Keep using council services and contacting your council as usual.
- The Government have confirmed that they expect elections to any new councils in May 2028, with new councils in place for April 2029.
- A further Government update is expected in early 2027.

What could devolution mean for Staffordshire?
The Government has agreed to begin talks on creating a Mayoral Strategic Authority for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
This could mean more decisions about jobs, transport, homes and growth are made locally and could help bring more Government funding into our area.
Your local council would still provide the everyday services you rely on, and nothing will change straight away.
There will be a consultation and if agreed with Government, it could be set up in autumn 2027 with the first mayor elected in May 2028. |

Don’t dump your pumpkins
|
| Once Halloween is over, please don’t leave pumpkins in our country parks or countryside.
They can harm wildlife and create hazards, so reuse them at home, compost them or put leftovers in your food waste caddy. |
