Parkrun arrives in Perton
South Staffordshire has proudly joined the growing network of parkrun events, with Perton Playing Fields hosting its inaugural 5k run.
The event, realised through nearly a year of planning by a dedicated Core Group, parish representatives, district officers, and the parkrun organisation, attracted 138 runners despite challenging weather.
The course, designed during summer months, proved testing yet rewarding, with participants embracing the conditions.
The ambition is for the event to become a permanent weekly fixture, complemented by a junior parkrun on Sundays.
Parkruns kick off first thing in the morning, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day!
✅ Arrival: Please arrive by 8.45am for a prompt start
✅ Start time: 9am (you’ll be finished by 10am)
Parkrun also hosts ‘Special Event’ days, which means there will be a Perton parkrun on Christmas Day – perfect for anyone who fancies some fresh air before starting the festivities.
Residents are encouraged to participate, either as runners or volunteers, contributing to a welcoming and vibrant community experience.
To get involved, volunteer, or ask any questions about the event, please email pertonplayingfieldsparkrun@parkrun.com.
Face to face support for residents of Codsall
On 4th December, the South Staffordshire Community Roadshow visited the Codsall Hub on Wolverhampton Road, bringing vital support services directly to local residents.
| Residents were able to access support from several key partners, including South Staffordshire Councils’ Welfare Support and warmer homes programmes, Citizen’s advice, Staffordshire Cares, and Homes plus.
Advice was given on how to access cost of living support this winter. Applications were made for warmer homes solutions, council tax reductions, and home adaptations. Renting needs were discussed and slow cookers were distributed to those living on their own or on a low income.
PCSO Fran Taylor promoted the event in line with the Winter of Action campaign at the ‘We’ll meet again club’, held at Trinity Methodist Church, and helped the team to distribute slow cookers to those who were unable to attend in person.
Rockspur CIC, a local provider for adults with disabilities, attended the event and were gifted two cookers to be utilise in their support kitchen.
Councillor Megan Barrow, cabinet member for Welfare Services, stated that this was an event that gave residents the opportunity to have those invaluable face-to-face conversations and be advised on what help is available.
Councillor Val Chapman commented that this was a great opportunity for Codsall residents to access the support they need this winter. |
South Staffordshire Community Roadshow visits Cheslyn Hay
| On the 9th December our Welfare support services advisor, Colin Heeley, joined partners from Homes Plus at Cheslyn Hay Parish Council to offer advice and guidance on benefits, energy savings, cost of living, housing and much more to residents.
Councillors Robert and Susan Duncan stated that the event had been very well received by residents who welcomed the opportunity to speak to our teams face to face.
The roadshows next stop will be Bilbrook Village Hall. |
