South Staffs Council named UK Council of the Year
South Staffordshire District Council was handed the title of UK Council of the Year at a national awards ceremony on Wednesday night.
The authority beat off stiff competition from authorities across the country for the prestigious award, after being nominated for the accolade by public sector awards body iESE.
iESE said this year’s awards was ‘one of the most competitive years ever’, after its judging panel received more than 260 nominations from 81 different public sector organisations from the UK and overseas.
The district council also won two gold awards at the London event: the Asset Management and Regeneration Award category for its Community Hub project, and the Working Together Award category for its Localities+ model.
The council was also awarded two Certificates of Excellence for its Local Plan Consultation and its Workplace Health and Wellbeing Programme rolled out during the Covid pandemic.

Codsall Community Hub news
Mobile breast screening unit returning to Codsall
Historically, a mobile breast screening unit has been located within Wombourne and Codsall as part of the tri-yearly breast screening cycle.
The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged the delivery of screening services nationally, but we are pleased to confirm the mobile screening unit will return to the Codsall Community Hub the week commencing Monday, April 4, for a period of 24 weeks.
Screenings will take place Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm and the unit will be hosted by the council outside the main Wolverhampton Road entrance to the Community Hub.
The return of the screening unit will complement and enhance the Community Hub and provide easily accessible breast screening provision locally for our residents. |
Parking
There will be no access to the large visitor car parking areas from the Wolverhampton Road from Saturday, March 19, to Sunday, March 20. These can be accessed from Histons Hill. Visitors will also need to exit via Histons Hill.
