Waste and Recycling
Blue Bags: Paper and card recycling
Your new blue bags for paper and card recycling will be arriving over the next couple of weeks along with your new bin calendar which contains important information about the changes to your recycling service (please check inside your bag).
You can also download your calendar here: Waste and Recycling Calendar South Staffordshire Council (sstaffs.gov.uk)
You should start using the bag as soon as it arrives. For more information about the blue bag, please visit: www.sstaffs.gov.uk/bluebag |
Garden Waste Collection Service
To continue having your green bin emptied from July 2022, you will need to sign up for a new permit.
Permits can be purchased online from Monday, May 9, at www.sstaffs.gov.uk/gardenwaste
The price of an annual permit has been frozen at £43.60 for 2022/23 to support with the rising cost of living. This year our waste collection crews will be stickering your bins rather than a sticker being sent in the post. You do not need to wait for the sticker to arrive, simply continue to present your bin for collection, our crews will know if you have signed up. |
Codsall Community Hub Jobs Fayre
South Staffordshire Council hosted a jobs fair in partnership with Amey and Hays recruitment.
The event, held on April 27, welcomed many attendees, as well as business and support partners. A selection of candidates walked away with job offers from Amey – which was a great result. South Staffordshire Council teams were there, including Leisure Services, as well as partners such as Staffordshire County Council and child/social care services, DWP representatives from Wolverhampton, Stafford and Cannock, and Building Better Opportunities. The event also focused on interview techniques and the mental health and wellbeing of job seekers, with various support sessions offered throughout the day. We thank all those who attended and wish everyone success in finding a new role. |

Dementia Action Week
Dementia Action Week is the biggest and longest running awareness campaign.
Each year, the Alzheimer’s Society work with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’.
This year’s campaign will run from May 16 to 22 and the theme is ‘diagnosis’.
Staffordshire Libraries will, through displays, information provision and signposting, help to spread the word about Dementia Action Week.
The libraries’ Reading Well collections provide books to support those living with dementia and those caring for loved ones living with dementia.
Find out more at the Dementia Action Week website
Waste Savvy Staffs Volunteer Opportunity
Waste Savvy Staffs is a Staffordshire County Council campaign in partnership with Garden Organic to reduce household waste by recruiting and training volunteers to raise awareness through stands at public events and talks to community groups and schools.
The next volunteer training day is Thursday May, 19, at Veolia’s Energy Recovery Facility in Four Ashes, South Staffordshire, where all of South Staffordshire’s grey bin waste goes to be converted into electricity.
Attendees will be provided with free training on food waste reduction, composting, recycling and other aspects of sustainable waste management, as well as a tour of the facility itself.
It’s easy and rewarding, you’ll have access to all the resources and support you need, meet lots of like-minded individuals, have all your expenses covered – and you only need to give a few hours a month.
Join the Waste Savvy Staffs family and help your local community to waste less at home. Email rwhitehouse@gardenorganic.org.uk to apply or to find out more.

Staffordshire Libraries Start-Up Hubs
Are you ready for an exciting opportunity to start working for yourself?
Staffordshire Libraries and Arts Service has received Arts Council England funding to work with Business Enterprise Support (BES) to set up Start-up Hubs in all libraries across Staffordshire.
This is an information awareness service available to anybody who is interested in working for themselves.
Libraries will offer information on self-employment and a dedicated space allocated for start-up promotional materials, leaflets, business related reading books, podcasts and information fact sheets.
Hubs will be coming online throughout 2022 and 2023 across the library network. The first at Stafford and Cannock are due to launch very soon.
