| South Staffordshire Local Plan Scoping Consultation and Call for Sites –
Have your say
The council is starting work on a new South Staffordshire Local Plan (SSLP) for the district. There are two strands of this with two separate opportunities to have your say.
1) Scoping Consultation
We are asking for your views at an early stage to help shape the plan through a scoping consultation, which is the first stage of public engagement in preparing the plan. The Scoping Consultation is the first chance for people to share their views on the issues and challenges that the SSLP should deal with and what the plan should include for example; homes, jobs, health and education services, and environmental protection.
The consultation runs from Wednesday, 10th June to midday on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026. To read the consultation material and share your comments visit:
https://engage.sstaffs.gov.uk/projects/scoping-consultation
2) Call for Sites
South Staffordshire Council is asking landowners, developers and other interested parties to suggest sites that could be used for future development. This could include housing, traveler sites, employment sites and retail. The call for sites helps us to understand what land may be available for different types of development.
The consultation runs from Wednesday, 10th June to midday on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026. Please note that sites submitted through previous calls will not automatically be carried forward and must be resubmitted for consideration as part of this process. Submit your your site option here: https://engage.sstaffs.gov.uk/projects/call-for-sites
Please contact the Local Plans team if you require any additional information using: localplans@sstaffs.gov.uk.

Make a splash this summer with our aquatic training courses
This summer, South Staffordshire Council’s leisure centres are offering a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain valuable skills and recognised qualifications through our aquatic training courses.
Running throughout the school holidays, the programme includes:
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (16+) – a week-long course that equips candidates with the skills and certification needed to work as a qualified lifeguard in a pool environment.
- Aquatic Helper Course (14+) – a one-day course designed to give candidates the skills to support swimming teachers, providing in-water assistance to help children learn to swim.
These courses are ideal for anyone looking to build confidence, learn essential skills, and take their first step into the leisure industry. Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking early to secure your place.

Keep safe in Staffordshire during the World Cup period
As a partner of Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, we’re supporting their Summer of ’26 campaign to help everyone enjoy the World Cup safely from 11th June to 19th July.
Please take a few simple steps to keep yourself and others safe while celebrating:
• Plan your journey home in advance
Heading out to watch a match or meet friends, arrange your transport before you go. Even one drink can affect your ability to drive, so use public transport, book a taxi or agree on a designated driver.
• Don’t drive the morning after drinking
Alcohol can remain in your system longer than you think. If you’ve had a late night, avoid driving the next morning and make alternative travel plans.
• Enjoy responsibly in public spaces
Antisocial behaviour and violence will not be tolerated. Police will be carrying out high visibility patrols to help ensure everyone can enjoy the summer safely.
• Respect others at home
No matter the result, everyone deserves to feel safe. If you are worried about behaviour at home, support is available.
• Avoid cooking after drinking alcohol
Most accidental fires happen in the kitchen. Alcohol slows reactions and increases the risk of a fire starting, even after a small amount.
• Make BBQs safe
Only use BBQs when sober, keep them away from fences, buildings and plants, and never leave them unattended.
• Take care in the countryside
Dispose of litter properly, avoid leaving glass in open areas, and fully extinguish cigarettes. Never throw cigarette ends from car windows.
Let’s make it a summer to remember, for the right reasons. Find out more at: Summer of ’26 | Staffordshire Police and Summer of ’26.

Help shape nature in Staffordshire
Staffordshire County Council is inviting residents, communities, farmers, landowners and businesses to help shape our Local Nature Recovery Strategy – a long-term plan to protect wildlife, improve habitats and create greener, healthier places for people and nature.
This is your chance to look at what’s being proposed and tell us what matters most to you. Whether it’s your local green space, wildlife you care about, or the places you enjoy every day, your views will help shape how we protect and improve them for the future.
Pet owners urged to take care when using flea and tick treatments to help protect our waterways
| Pet owners are being reminded to use flea and tick spot-on treatments correctly to help protect UK waterways.
When used incorrectly, these treatments can enter rivers and harm wildlife. To reduce this risk, follow three simple steps: Plan, Apply, Protect
- Plan – Wash your pet before treatment and choose a time with less contact.
- Apply – Follow the instructions and apply directly to the skin, not the fur.
- Protect – Let it dry fully, keep pets out of water for at least four days, and bin used pipettes.
If you need advice or treatments are not working, speak to your vet or medicine supplier. Small steps can make a big difference for your pet and the environment.
