South Staffordshire Council pay respects to the fallen at a remembrance service
‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them’
This Remembrance Day, South Staffordshire Council paused to commemorate the military service personnel who have sacrificed their lives in service to defend our nation.
In a poignant ceremony, we paid our respects to honour the bravery and resilience of those who served and continue to serve.
A service of remembrance was led by Reverend Margaret Mattocks, followed by a parade by British Legion and a two minute silence which was observed at 11am.
The service was attended by His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant, the Chairman and Leader of the Council, Sir Gavin Williamson CBE MP, MP Mike Wood’s representative Yasser Mahmood, local dignitaries, council officers and local schools.
His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant commenced the laying of the wreaths followed by dignitaries and community representatives.
Thank you to those who joined us in remembrance to honour those who have protected our freedom.
Their strength and courage will never be forgotten.
