Celebrating local volunteers at the Support Staffordshire VCSE Forum
Community groups, volunteers and organisations from across South Staffordshire recently came together at the Support Staffordshire VCSE Locality Forum and Volunteer Recognition Event at Perton Civic Centre.
The special marketplace event, held as part of Volunteers’ Week celebrations, recognised the incredible contribution volunteers make to communities across the district. Volunteers nominated by local organisations were presented with recognition certificates as part of a special Roll of Honour, celebrating their dedication, kindness and positive impact.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who submitted nominations and attended the event. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local organisations, share experiences and shine a spotlight on the people who generously give their time to support others.
Their commitment helps strengthen our communities and makes South Staffordshire a better place for everyone.
New online reporting form for missed bin collections
We know how important it is that your bins are collected on time, and we hope you never need to use this service, but if you do experience a missed collection, reporting it is now easier than ever.
| You can now report a missed bin, bag or caddy online through our new reporting form, with no need to create a My Account.
You can also report missed collections through the My South Staffs app, available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
The normal reporting timescales still apply. Missed collections must be reported by the end of the day following your scheduled collection day. However, the new online service gives you until midnight to submit your report, rather than needing to contact us before Customer Services close at 5pm.
Before reporting a missed bin, please read the guidance on our website to make sure your collection meets the reporting criteria and to avoid unnecessary requests. |
Free summer activities at South Staffordshire cemeteries
Families are invited to enjoy two FREE summer events at South Staffordshire’s cemeteries this July.
We’re working with Forest of Mercia CIC to host bug hunt and rock painting sessions at Sytch Lane Cemetery in Wombourne and Strawberry Lane Cemetery in Great Wyrley.
The events offer the chance to explore some of the peaceful cemetery grounds, discover local wildlife and get creative outdoors.
Following a guided bug hunt, children can decorate their own colourful rocks. These can be created in memory of a loved one, taken home as a keepsake, or hidden for others to find.
Jennings Funeral Directors will also be on-hand to offer advice and guidance on funerals and funeral planning.

Enjoy an active summer for less at South Staffordshire leisure centres
Families can enjoy a range of affordable activities at South Staffordshire Council leisure centres to keep children active and entertained during the summer holidays.
Through the Staffordshire Space Scheme, eligible local children and young people aged 8-17 can access discounted activities throughout the summer, including swimming sessions for just £1, gym sessions for £1 and 3G pitch hire for £10.
Alongside the activities, families can enjoy daily swimming sessions at leisure centres throughout the school holidays.
Aspire Activity Camps will also be running sports-based holiday activities for children aged 4-14, providing a fun and active way to spend the school break.
Children can also take part in Wolves Soccer Schools, helping them improve their football skills while having fun and staying active.
Brewood Open Gardens helps local causes bloom
The annual Brewood Open Gardens event has once again demonstrated the incredible community spirit of South Staffordshire, raising more than £9,000 for local charities and community groups.
Thanks to the generosity of residents who opened their gardens, alongside volunteers, visitors and supporters, a total of £9,052.93 was raised and will be shared between 12 local organisations, including community groups, schools and charities that support local people and wildlife.
Individual gardens also raised a further £5,208.80 for their own chosen causes, bringing the overall impact of the event to more than £14,000.
South Staffordshire Council was pleased to support the event by taking advertising space in the event programme, helping to contribute towards fundraising efforts while also promoting the new Codsall Workspace. The workspace, which opened earlier this year, provides flexible office, coworking and meeting space for local businesses, entrepreneurs and remote workers.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making this year’s Open Gardens such a success. Their efforts continue to make a real difference to communities across the area.
Hide & Seek Festival 2026
As preparations continue for the Hide & Seek Festival 2026 at Weston Park (24th to 26th July), South Staffordshire Council are working closely with event organisers and partner agencies to support the safe and successful delivery of the event.
| The festival is expected to attract around 8,000 attendees across the weekend, bringing significant visitor numbers to the local area.
The council and other partner agencies have advised the organisers through the safety advisory group process to help ensure festival-goers can enjoy a positive experience while minimising impacts on local residents and businesses.
Residents who experience any issues during the event are encouraged to contact events@sstaffs.gov.uk.
Any concerns received will be passed directly to the event’s dedicated community hotline to ensure they can be addressed as quickly as possible by the relevant teams.
