Fly tippers in Essington ordered to pay £400 Fixed Penalty Notice
A Wolverhampton resident recently paid a Fixed Penalty Notice after their rubbish was discovered in South Staffordshire.
They received a £600 Fixed Penalty for failing in their Household Duty of Care, reduced to £400 for prompt payment. Non-payment could have led to prosecution and a criminal conviction.
On or before 07/11/2024, a fly tip was found on Old Landywood Lane, Essington, consisting of furniture and household decoration items. The rubbish was traced to a Wolverhampton address, where the householder explained they had left the old furniture outside for anyone to take after purchasing new items.
They stated not all of the fly tipped items (pictured) had come from their home, but identified items which did.
The law requires householders to take “reasonable steps” to ensure their waste is not fly-tipped. As this householder could not provide details of who took their rubbish, they were issued a Fixed Penalty Notice.
South Staffordshire Council is fully supportive of people who donate unwanted items for reuse by others, but this must be done in a responsible manner which does not result in the council having to pay to clear up fly tipped rubbish.
In 2024, South Staffordshire Council spent approximately £90,000 clearing fly-tipped rubbish.
If householders responsibly donated items and used reputable waste removal services, fly-tipping could be reduced, keeping our countryside cleaner. |

Light Up A Life in support of Compton Care
This year, the Community Hub proudly participated in Compton Care’s annual Christmas event, ‘Light Up A Life,’ which has been a cherished tradition for over 20 years.
The event offers a heartfelt opportunity for people to honour and remember loved ones they have lost.
Supporters were invited to donate to Compton Care and write a personal message to their loved ones on a Christmas bauble, which they placed on the Christmas Tree as a symbol of remembrance and love.
A total of £153 was raised to support the invaluable care and assistance provided by Compton Care to those in need.
Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign. |
