Celebrating our Volunteer Walk Leaders at Codsall Community Hub
Last Friday, the Leader of the Council, Councillor Kath Perry, Chief Executive Dave Heywood, and representatives from Leisure Services were pleased to welcome our dedicated walk leader volunteers and Walk Leader Co-ordinator Louise Coleman to Codsall Community Hub.
The event was held to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contribution our volunteers make to the district’s walking programmes.
With around 50 dedicated volunteers supporting our coordinated walking programmes across the district, their commitment is the backbone of our success. Thanks to their efforts, this year’s Walking Festival saw a record number of participants enjoying walks across South Staffordshire over several weeks.
The event was a great success, bringing together many of our volunteers for a chance to socialise, reflect on achievements, and look ahead to the future.
Alongside informal conversations, we also discussed plans for next year’s Walking Festival and the continued delivery of our regular walking programme.
Looking ahead, we’re eager to grow our team of volunteers. By expanding our network of walk leaders, we can enhance the programme and make delivery even smoother and more accessible across the district.
We are incredibly grateful to all our volunteers for their ongoing dedication and for giving up their valuable time. Their work has a lasting and positive impact on the local community, helping to promote health, wellbeing, and social connection.
If you’re interested in joining our team of volunteer walk leaders and supporting this fantastic initiative, please contact Louise Coleman at louisewalkingforhealth@gmail.com

Flooding advice from Severn Trent Water ⚠️
With heavy rainfall forecast for our region over the next 48 hours, it’s important that residents know how to prepare and who to contact if flooding occurs.
Severn Trent Water, the Environment Agency and local councils are working together to help communities stay safe and supported.
Who to contact
- Flooding on roads, small rivers, streams and brooks – Contact Staffordshire County Council. This includes blocked drains or grates on highways. They will also help you with groundwater surface flooding.
- Flooding on South Staffordshire Council land – South Staffordshire Council
- Major river flooding – Call the Environment Agency Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or visit their website
- Sewer flooding or burst pipes – Contact Severn Trent Water. If the flooding is caused by heavy rain, floodwater may need to subside before they can investigate. Please also inform your insurer.
Practical steps to reduce flood risk
- Empty garden water butts before rain arrives.
- Clear leaves and debris from home drains and guttering.
- Check roadside drains near your property and report blockages to the council.
