Honouring loved ones and supporting nature
‘Adopt a Tree’ at Strawberry Lane
In April, Forest of Mercia CIC, along with members of the Treeworks team, planted 44 deciduous broadleaf trees at Strawberry Lane Cemetery in Great Wyrley. These trees were generously provided by Forest of Mercia through a grant scheme, aimed at enhancing green spaces and promoting biodiversity. The selected trees include a diverse mix of species, such as Oak, Cherry, Maple, Hawthorn, Liquid Amber, and Silver Birch. Each tree was carefully chosen for its potential to contribute character, vibrant colours, and beautiful blossoms to the cemetery site, creating a visually appealing environment for visitors.
Forest of Mercia CIC is part of the National Community Forest Partnership and has a long track record of delivering successful environmental projects in Staffordshire and the West Midlands. They use the natural environment to educate, improve health and wellbeing and encourage everyone to use the outdoors in a way that’s right for them. You can find out more about their work on their website: Forest Of Mercia CIC | England | Community Forest | Environmental Education
Some of the trees are available to ‘adopt’, with the option of having a personalised plaque placed at the base of the tree as a lasting tribute. Our ‘adopt-a-tree’ scheme provides a meaningful way for families to honour the memory of their loved ones, whilst also contributing to the enhancement of the cemetery grounds. If you’re interested in adopting a tree and would like more information, please contact us on 01902 696111 or email us at bereavementservices@sstaffs.gov.uk.
The council owns two cemeteries, Sytch Lane in Wombourne and Strawberry Lane in Great Wyrley and more information about the services we offer can be found on our website https://www.sstaffs.gov.uk/bereavement-services or alternatively, please get in touch on the contact details above and we will be more than happy to help.
