South Staffordshire Local Plan – call for sites
The council is continuing preparation of a new Local Plan for the district under the planning system introduced through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023. Landowners, developers and other interested parties are invited to submit land for consideration for a range of uses, including housing, traveller accommodation, employment and retail.
This reopens the Call for Sites process that closed in July 2026. Sites submitted during the June/July 2026 exercise have already been recorded and will be assessed. There is no need to resubmit these sites and only new submissions will be accepted.
Submissions close at 12 noon on Friday 30 October 2026.The site submission form can be found here
For more information or assistance in submitting a site, email localplans@sstaffs.gov.uk
July – September 2026 fly-tipping figures
Fly-tipping continues to affect South Staffordshire, diverting Street Scene operatives from scheduled work to remove illegally dumped waste. Offences often occur when individuals or businesses paid to dispose of waste choose illegal disposal methods instead.
Residents and businesses can help prevent this by using reputable waste carriers and requesting waste transfer notes showing where waste has been legally disposed of.
July-September 2026 (Quarter 2)
- Fly-tipping incidents were 0.6% higher than the same period last year.
- Clean-up costs increased by 16% to £46,085, indicating larger incidents requiring removal.
- The south-west of the district, including Kinver, Enville and Lower Penn, and eastern areas including Essington, Featherstone and Saredon, remain the most targeted.
Monthly figures remain broadly stable following the peaks seen during Covid. We remain committed to prosecuting offenders, with several cases due before the courts.
Chairman takes on the world’s fastest zipline for charity
South Staffordshire Council Chairman, Councillor Victor Kelly, has taken fundraising to new heights after completing Velocity 2 at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales, the world’s fastest zipline.
The Chairman was joined by his consort, Mrs Lyndsey Kelly and fellow civic leaders from across Staffordshire as they braved the spectacular zipline experience, soaring high above the stunning Welsh landscape.
The challenge forms part of the Chairman’s fundraising efforts during his year of office, with all proceeds supporting the vital work of Compton Care.
Thanks to the generosity of residents, colleagues and supporters, the Chairman has already raised an impressive £925 towards his fundraising target. The money raised will help Compton Care continue providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care, as well as emotional support for patients and their families across the region.
Donations are still welcome and every contribution will help make a difference to the invaluable services provided by Compton Care.

New resource hub brings businesses and education together
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Business meets education work experience Resource Hub to help local businesses, schools and colleges create meaningful opportunities for young people.
The free online hub brings together practical guidance and tools for organisations at every stage, whether they are offering work experience for the first time or looking to strengthen an existing programme. It covers getting started, planning a valuable placement, supporting young people in the workplace and building effective relationships between employers and education providers.
By supporting work experience, businesses can showcase local career opportunities, help young people develop confidence and workplace skills, and build a future talent pipeline. Stronger links between employers and education can also help young people understand the range of careers available close to home.
