South Staffordshire Council honours the fallen on Remembrance Day
________________________________________
________________________________________
On Remembrance Day, South Staffordshire Council came together to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of the military personnel who gave their lives in service to our country.
In a moving ceremony, we honoured the bravery and resilience of those who served and continue to serve.
The service was led by Reverend Philip Wootton and included a parade by the Royal British Legion, culminating in a two-minute silence observed at 11am.
The event was attended by the Chairman and Leader of the Council, MP Mike Wood, Sir Gavin Williamson’s representative Ryan Hillback, local dignitaries, council officers, and pupils from local schools.
Wreaths were laid in tribute, beginning with the Chairman of the Council, followed by other dignitaries and community representatives.
We thank everyone who joined us in paying tribute to our fallen heroes.
Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Cost of living support this winter
________________________________________
South Staffordshire welfare services team have been supporting residents with cost of living and eating well as we enter the winter months.
Local community groups and welcome hubs have been identifying residents who are living on their own, isolated and/or on a low income and would benefit from a slow cooker.
Over 100 cookers have now been distributed across the district including Essington, Cheslyn Hay, Bilbrook, Penkridge, Huntington, and Codsall.
Beneficiaries have also included families relying on food banks this winter and those with health concerns.
Councillor Gary Burnett, Bilbrook stated “The scheme has proved extremely popular. Slow cookers are great for residents of pension age, especially if they are living alone, because they can prepare nutritious meals with minimal effort and save on energy costs”.
Councillor Megan Barrow, Cabinet member for Welfare Services, shared “those vulnerable, isolated residents, and families using local food banks, are all benefiting from this project.
St Nicholas CE First School are also loving the way these community projects are including their organisations and supporting their pupils and families.”
